You might wonder what Little Round Top has to do with Wish You Were Here. While cruise vacationing is one of my passions, revisiting our National Parks is another. No matter where I travel, Gettysburg is a place like none other for me. It's an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of heroes from all parts of our Nation and honor them where they served during a critical time in our history.
Remembrance Day
John and I have an annual tradition of visiting Gettysburg the weekend nearest Nov 19th, often just before Thanksgiving, because Gettysburg celebrates Remembrance Day. This year was the 145th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. Every year, on Saturday at 1pm, there is a wonderful parade through town. Hundreds of re-enactors gather here for wreath-laying ceremonies commemorating the fallen heroes of that three-day ordeal. At dusk, the National Soldiers Cemetery is illuminated with candles. General Grant was in Vicksburg, not Gettysburg, but it was great seeing him nonetheless.
