Holiday Issue - Part II

Issue 17
Here's a quick update to close out 2009. God Bless us each and every one!
WWII tree this little tree has seen more military service than anyone. The owner's father had it in WWII, his older brother took it to Korea, younger brother took it to Vietnam, it traveled with the owner to Afghanistan, and the Protestant Chaplain (friend of the family) brought it to Baghdad for Christmas 2009!
The Protestant Chaplain surprised me with a certificate of appreciation for playing the services.
The Catholic Priest also showed his appreciation.
Here is one of the Certificates.
Landscaping this must have been a pretty walkway before the War.
Sunset on Christmas Eve is one I will never forget.
This would have been the 2nd largest mosque in the world if completed. The cranes are in the same positions as they were in 2005.
I was able to tune into the "Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" at 3PM London time (6PM Iraq time and 9AM Huntsville time!)
My Christmas Day Dinner was very good (turkey, prime rib, dressing, beans, potatoes, broccoli, and eggnog.)
The Decorations in the Dining Facility were very colorful and cheery. They included iced carvings, sculpted watermelons, decorated cakes, and even a manger!
Many flags hang on the walls year round This was the chance to photograph my two State flags (Alabama and Maryland), the Orioles, Auburn University, and University of Alabama!
You won't see a photo of a fireplace in Baghdad very often - this is outside the Chapel, which used to be a bath house.
Guess who visited us in Baghdad?
Now there are only two moons remaining after this one! The New Year's Eve moon was gorgeous - the rare "Blue" moon.
On to the future. Here is a photo I could not resist. A new building is going up. In America, the door is usually installed last. Not here! I love this. Somehow, there is a funny line here. Any suggestions? Happy New Year!
